Diving Pool Sparger Systems

A Diving Pool Air Cushion & Sparger System is a specialized underwater safety system engineered to mitigate impact forces during high-platform diving, cliff diving, and performance aquatic sports. The system generates a controlled vertical air column—commonly known as an “air cushion”—that reduces water density at the entry point, significantly decreasing deceleration loads on athletes. This technology is critical for professional diving facilities, aquatic show venues, and training centers where repetitive high-impact entries occur.

The system consists of an array of bottom-mounted stainless steel air diffusers, constructed using AISI 316L perforated piping or modular diffuser grids. These are installed within recessed channels or integrated directly into the reinforced pool slab. High-capacity air blowers or compressors supply controlled pressurized air through dedicated airline manifolds. Flow regulation is achieved via automated proportional valves, ensuring precise adjustment of air volume, bubble size, and distribution according to dive height and safety requirements.

Upon activation, the sparger system releases a continuous stream of micro- and macro-bubbles, forming a vertical aerated column that alters the water’s density profile. This reduces impact forces by 50–70%, depending on system configuration and water depth. The aeration column width and penetration depth are optimized through computational flow modeling and site-specific hydraulic analysis. Typical system design parameters include diffuser spacing, air discharge rate, head losses across manifolds, and turbulence levels at diving trajectory intersections.

All system components are engineered for continuous exposure to chlorinated or saltwater environments. The blowers feature noise-reduced housings, vibration isolation mounts, and intake filtration. Control is managed through an integrated PLC panel, allowing operators to select pre-programmed modes for training, synchronized diving, or high-platform jumps. Safety interlocks, emergency shut-off circuits, and real-time pressure monitoring ensure reliable performance.

The Diving Pool Air Cushion & Sparger System complies with international aquatic safety practices and is designed in accordance with DIN EN 13451, ANSI/APSP standards, and performance guidelines for competitive diving facilities. The system provides a critical safety enhancement, enabling athletes to train at higher intensities while reducing the risk of injury from water impact.
